Turning Waste into Wings: How Lub d Phuket Patong Is Creating Sustainable Aviation Fuel

When people think of Patong, Phuket, they often envision pristine beaches, vibrant nightlife, and world-renowned street food.  Beyond these iconic attractions, Lub d Phuket Patong is driving meaningful environmental change through a strong commitment to sustainability.

Under the leadership of Khun Edayat Yaprajan, Cluster General Manager of Lub d Southern Region and the dedicated Lub d Phuket Patong team, sustainability has become an integral part of the hotel’s operational strategy. In partnership with Phuket-based cooking oil management service FryCycle, Lub d has joined the “Phuket Grease to Green & Fry to Fly” initiative, which transforms used cooking oil into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and contributes to a more sustainable future for Phuket’s tourism industry.

Driving Sustainability Through Measurable Impact

At Lub d Phuket Patong, sustainability is guided by measurable results, not just good intentions. Lub d takes a data-driven approach to environmental responsibility, tracking its impact through FryCycle’s certified reporting. These transparent insights demonstrate how everyday kitchen operations are helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support the transition toward a more sustainable future.

2025 Proven Results

For Lub d Phuket Patong’s kitchen efforts in 2025, we received an official certification demonstrating how recycling 225 kg of cooking oil successfully mitigated carbon emissions compared to conventional fossil fuels:

  • Standard Jet Fuel Baseline: Traditional jet fuel generating equivalent energy would emit 660.83 kg
  • The SAF Alternative: Processing our recycled oil into Sustainable Aviation Fuel emitted just 103.21 kg
  • Net Carbon Savings: Our team successfully prevented 557.62 kg from entering the atmosphere!

Exponential Growth in 2026

To maximize our impact, Lub d Phuket Patong pushed to enroll the hotel in a structured continuous program in 2026. The shift has paid off immensely. Year-To-Date (YTD June 2026), the team has already collected and recycled 387 kg of used cooking oil! In just six months, we have nearly doubled the output of the entire previous year, proving the operational efficiency and dedication of Lub d’s crew.

Better Travel Starts with Better Choices

“What was once considered waste becomes part of a larger cycle. It is a small step in our daily kitchen routine, but a deeply meaningful one when scaled across communities.”, said Edayat Yaprajan, Cluster General Manager – Lub d Southern Thailand Region

Khun Edayat shares immense pride in the Lub d Phuket Patong team for actively contributing to this movement and demonstrating leadership in sustainable hospitality. By participating in the Grease to Green and Fry to Fly programs, Lub d is helping bridge the hospitality and aviation sectors to build a resilient, eco-friendly community in Phuket.

The next time you enjoy a meal at Lub d Phuket Patong, you can rest assured that our team is working hard behind the scenes. We are ensuring nothing goes to waste, turning kitchen oil into “wings” that fly us all toward a cleaner, brighter tomorrow.
